Welcome — a few questions before we begin

Your answers help us plan the right training for you before the English course begins. Please answer as honestly as you can — there are no wrong answers. We will provide personal help with any skills you need, and training will be arranged before the course starts. Everything you tell us stays between you and your teacher. This takes about 5 minutes.

Your name
This can be your first name, nickname, or any name you prefer.
Optional — write as many names as you like, or leave blank.
Your computer
Choose the type you use most often for this course.
Some course activities use two screens.
A mouse is a small device you plug into your computer and move on your desk to control the arrow on the screen.
Look at your screen when you start your computer.
You will need these to participate in online classes.
Your internet and browser
A browser is the program you use to visit websites — for example, Chrome, Edge, or Safari.
Computer skills
Scrolling means moving the page up or down to see more text, like turning a page.
For example: going to Google and typing a word to find information about it.
For example: clicking the bar at the top of your browser and typing "www.google.com" to go to that website.
This means holding the mouse button down and moving across words to highlight them. The highlighted text usually changes colour.
Right-clicking means pressing the right side of your mouse on text you have already highlighted.
Microsoft Teams
The chat is where people in the class type messages during a meeting.
Sharing your entire screen (not just one window) means your teacher can see everything on your computer. You need to choose "Desktop" or "Screen" in Teams — not just one window.
When you share your full screen, the Teams toolbar disappears into the taskbar at the bottom of your screen. You need to click on it to bring Teams back, then click "Stop sharing". This is a skill we will practise together.
Your availability
Select as many time slots as possible. The more you select, the easier it is for us to schedule your class.
